What’s Hot? Best Winter Dishes at SFM

As the temperature drops, there’s nothing better than a hearty, hot dish to keep the chill out. Luckily, our retailers have got you covered. Here’s what’s hot at Sydney Fish Market this winter - comforting dishes that’ll warm you right up this winter.

Seafood Laksa

A spicy laksa is perfect for those times when you feel like you need to be warmed from the inside out, and the version at Christie’s Seafood is a must-try. Packed with fresh seafood, you can adjust the heat to your taste, whether you like a gentle kick or something that really brings out the heat. Either way, this hearty bowl is the ultimate comfort food, especially on a fresh day.

Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter

The name of this dish alone will make your mouth water. Don’t miss adding lobster tails in garlic butter to your lunchtime seafood platter - they are meltingly delicious, scattered with fresh herbs, and always super fresh. If you’re not quite ready to commit to a full half-lobster, the tails are a smaller and cheaper option that will still hit the spot.

Chicken Focaccia

If you are after a satisfying sambo, make sure to stop by Waterside Bakehouse. They offer a fresh focaccia filled with a hearty piece of crispy chicken schnitzel, cabbage, melty cheese and a generous drizzle of chili mayo. Ask the team to pop it in the toaster for you, and you're all set with a warming and substantial winter lunch.

As a bonus, every sandwich at Waterside Bakehouse comes with a free coffee, to really help warm your cockles!

Lobster Eggs Benedict

Visiting the market around breakfast or brunch time? The Boatshed has got you covered. Their Lobster Eggs Benedict is a must-try. Enjoy half a Western Australian Rock Lobster, poached eggs, chilli hollandaise, and spinach, all served up on a crunchy slice of sourdough. A match made in brunch heaven, the lobster paired with a chilli hollandaise sauce offers a bold taste which is rich, comforting and just the thing for a winter morning by the water.

Now the only decision is whether to wash it down with a coffee... or a glass of bubbles.

Singapore Chili Mud Crab

Many retailers at SFM offer live Mud Crab, cooked to order. Simply pick your crab, choose your sauce, and enjoy. We recommend the Singapore Chilli sauce, the sauce is sweet, tangy, spicy, and pairs perfectly with the tender Mud Crab meat. The spice kick brings the heat in all the right ways, perfect for a hands-on feast that’s full of flavour. Remember to grab some napkins because this dish can get messy!
