Auction and all other sales methods to continue – Information Update for Suppliers

On March 24th, Scott Morrison announced a list of new bans and business restrictions to help stop Covid-19 spread.

This list included “auction houses, gatherings together in auction rooms”.

We have sought and received urgent clarification from the NSW Health department who have confirmed that as a crucial food market, Sydney Fish Market’s auction is exempt from the ban and should continue to operate.

However, we have been informed that as an indoor venue we must restrict access to the auction floor and surrounding areas (including the buyers’ stand) to a maximum of 100 people at any one time.

We have therefore made arrangements for additional buyers to be accommodated in separate locations here at the Market and our remote bidding capabilities will also ensure that all buyers who wish to participate will have full access to the daily auction process.

We are taking the Government’s instructions very seriously - for the safety of our auction users andfor the community more broadly to ensure that the auction can continue to operate with full integrity.

Strict social distancing will be in force.

Please rest assured that Sydney Fish Market will continue to operate a safe, effective and competitive auction.

We will continue to keep you updated should circumstances alter, however, we wanted to get this message to you immediately to let you know that the auction and all other sales methods remain fully operational. We look forward to receiving and trading your product.
