It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Grahame Turk AM - a visionary leader, a passionate advocate for the seafood industry, and a driving force behind the growth and evolution of Sydney Fish Market.
Grahame's association with Sydney Fish Market spanned over three decades, serving as Director, CEO/Managing Director, and most recently, as Chair for over ten years, Grahame’s contribution was both immense and enduring.
Throughout his tenure, Grahame navigated the complexities of the industry with integrity and courage. He championed collaboration among diverse stakeholder groups, consistently placing the long-term interests of the industry, the community, and the Market at the forefront of his decision-making.
A pivotal moment in Sydney Fish Market’s history came in 1994, when Grahame led the industry consortium to privatise the NSW Fish Marketing Authority - establishing a unique ownership structure that continues to benefit not only shareholders, but also the wider seafood sector.
Grahame was also instrumental in securing NSW Government support and funding for the Market’s much-anticipated redevelopment - a legacy project that will serve generations to come.
Beyond Sydney Fish Market, Grahame's influence reached across the national seafood landscape. As Chair of the National Seafood Industry Alliance, he played a key role in the formation of Seafood Industry Australia, the peak body for the sector. In recognition of his exceptional service, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia - a fitting tribute to a lifetime of dedication.
We are deeply grateful for Grahame’s leadership, advocacy, and enduring passion. His legacy lives on not only in the transformed Market we see today, but in the strengthened industry and community he contributed to so broadly.
Our thoughts are with Grahame’s family during this time. He will be dearly missed.
