Yes, it’s official! We’ll see you at our new home in January. But before we move, it’s time for one last hurrah at our current site. Visit, soak up the market atmosphere, enjoy the seafood, and make the most of these final months before we pack up and head to our new digs.
We can hardly contain our excitement. The new Sydney Fish Market will welcome 40 retailers, including restaurants, cafés, bars, speciality stores, bakeries, delis, and of course, our famous seafood traders. Check out our full list of traders here.
Still in the mood for a seafood snack? Great! On your next visit, here are some of our favourite market bites to try before the big move.
Musumeci – Cooked Peeled Prawns
You don’t come to Sydney Fish Market without cracking open a few prawns. It’s the quintessential Aussie experience — fresh prawns by the water. Grab a tray of ready-to-eat Tiger Prawns with a wedge of lemon, perfect for a sunny snack on the boardwalk. Or, if you don’t mind a bit of mess, pick up a bag to peel yourself. Just watch out for the seagulls.
Claudio’s Seafood – Hot Crab Dip
If you’re a regular at Claudio’s, you’ve probably spotted Tony hauling giant Tuna from crates and slicing them fresh for sale. You may have checked out their excellent selection of unique species, but don’t miss the speciality fridges in store. They’re packed with smoked trout, caviar, and other gourmet finds. Our pick? The Hot Crab Dip. Creamy, fragrant, and rich, it’s the ultimate partner for a salty cracker (or a prawn).
Blackwattle Deli – Pita Crisps and Olives
Blackwattle Deli is a treasure trove of artisanal goodies, from cheeses and chips to oils and olives. Grab some sea salt pita crisps for your crab dip, then visit the olive bar to build your perfect mix. Go classic with Kalamata, juicy with Sicilian, or adventurous with anchovy-stuffed olives. Not sure? Go for a mix and try them all!
Nicholas Seafood – Ikayaki (Grilled Squid)
If you’ve strolled through SFM, you’ll have noticed Nicholas’ Takoyaki stand, but their latest addition, Ikayaki, is a must-try. This Japanese-style grilled squid on a skewer is brushed with a soy-based glaze and cooked before your eyes. Tender, glossy, and smoky, it’s street food perfection.
GetFish – Mixed Nigiri
GetFish is known for pristine sashimi and rare seafood cuts, but have you checked out their sushi and nigiri? Pick a few pieces for a quick snack from grilled eel with smoky soy to tuna, prawn with mayo, sea urchin, or scallop topped with roe. There’s no limit to how good it gets.
Peter’s Seafood – Aburi Scallops
Cheesy, seafood-filled goodness at its best. Peter’s famous Aburi bar serves trays of scallops layered with rice, sauce, and melted cheese, all fired fresh in their shells for the ultimate cheese pull. They come in trays of three which is handy, because one is never enough.
Fruit Ezy – Green Mango and Tajin
Fruit Ezy isn’t just your greengrocer, it’s a hub for fresh produce, pantry staples and unique foodie combos you may not have tried before. Try the Green Mango with Tajin. Crisp mango slices dusted with salty, limey Tajin seasoning make for the perfect tangy treat. Simple. Refreshing. Addictive.
Sushi Bar – Prawn Tempura
Sushi Bar holds the title of Sydney Fish Market’s longest-standing retailer, and for good reason! Alongside sushi, sashimi, and bento boxes, they serve classic hot dishes like creamy crab croquettes, seafood udon, and crisp prawn tempura. Golden, crunchy, and satisfying, these are gone before you know it.
Fisherman’s Fine Wines – Pinot Grigio
Fancy a drink? Head to Fisherman’s Fine Wines, our on-site bottle shop stocked with everything from local brews to international wines. Not sure what pairs best with your seafood spread? Ask the team, they’ll help you find your perfect match.
Christie’s – Cocktail Abalone
You might recognise Christie’s for their star oyster shucking ability, but don’t overlook their hot food. Their Cocktail Abalone, cooked, crumb-topped, and served in its shell, is a flavourful favourite across Asian cuisines. Pro tip: ask staff to slice it for you so it’s ready for perfect bite-sized pieces.
The Boatshed – Salt and Pepper Calamari
Known for their indulgent seafood platters and luxurious dishes that sees whole lobster peeking out of a bowl of noodles, but did you know the Boatshed also serves up smaller classics. Their salt and pepper Calamari is cooked to order with a light, crisp batter and a sprinkle of green onion and chilli. Served with tangy aioli, it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
Fish Market Café – Sushi Taco
If you’re up to date with foodie trends, then we’re sure you’ve seen sushi tacos lighting up your phone screen. Fish Market Café is leading the charge, and we are so thankful this snack is staying popular! The viral fusion combines Japanese flavours with Mexican crunch: crisp nori shell, rice, avocado, fresh tuna or salmon sashimi, topped with sauce and roe. Guaranteed irresistible first bite. Believe the hype.
Waterside Bakehouse – Cookies
Every great meal deserves a sweet treat ending. At Waterside Bakehouse, you’ll find decadent cookies and baked, alongside their own house-made favourites. Whether you go for pistachio, chocolate, or classic amaretti, these small treats are the perfect finisher.
Machi Machi – Dragon Fruit Green Tea
When the sun’s blazing and a seagull’s just stolen your chip, escape into Machi Machi Tea Bar. Their range of fruity teas and ice-cold slushes will cool you down. Their vibrant new Dragon Fruit Green Tea is summer in a cup, bright pink, refreshing, and just sweet enough. Big sweet tooth? Add the cream cheese foam for something truly special.
