Rockcods

Do they live in deep or shallow waters? Are they famous or underutilized? Are they expensive or cheap? Annoyingly, the answers to all of these questions is yes when it comes to the Rockcod family!

At the cheap end of the spectrum, we have the Wirrah, formerly known as ’old boot’, in an attempt to warn people of its inedibility. But we can safely say that an Australian fisherman a hundred years ago most likely did not have an educated palate; Wirrah are tasty!

At the valuable end of the same family lies premium species such as Coral Trout and Longfin Perch, two of Australia’s most beautiful fish.
