Rick Stein narrates a new six-part SBS documentary series that takes you behind the scenes of Sydney Fish Market. Each Friday, join us to watch the latest episode here, in the place where much of it happened.
Inside Sydney Fish Market follows the retailers, buyers, fishers and generational families who keep the market running. The cameras had access to every part of the market, from the pre-dawn auction to the retail floor, as the community made its biggest move yet: the move to the new Sydney Fish Market.
Our free catch-up screenings are in the Auction Hall – the beating heart of the market.
Grab lunch from one of our retailers or restaurants, take a seat, and watch the stories of the people working just metres away.

About the series
Produced by Butter Media for SBS and BBC Studios, Inside Sydney Fish Market shows the hustle behind the largest seafood market in the Southern Hemisphere. Away from the market floor, the series travels across Australasia in search of premium seafood. It goes rock lobster fishing in Far North Queensland, urchin diving off the NSW South Coast, and crosses the Tasman to the windswept Chatham Islands. Throughout, it captures an industry built on resilience, where people work through constant change and unpredictable conditions to bring the freshest catch to market.
Watch at home
Inside Sydney Fish Market premieres Thursday 8 October at 8.25pm on SBS. Episodes are released weekly and available to stream on SBS On Demand.
