Blessing of the Fleet

Blessing of the Fleet

17/09/2017 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Sydney Fish Market along with the Association Bagnara Calabra are bringing to life one of the oldest traditions amongst fishing communities across the world: The Blessing of the Fleet.

Join us on Sunday, 17th September to bless our local fishing fleet and enjoy a day of family friendly activities.

The procession of the Madonna S.S Maria Di Portosalvo Sydney accompanied by the Giuseppe Verdi Band will commence at 10:15am and will culminate with the local fishing fleet being blessed by Rev Pierluigi Passoni from St Mary’s Cathedral at Blackwattle Bay Wharf.

Following the ceremony is an afternoon of celebrations with live music, face painting, and the hotly contested spaghetti eating competition. Artists including Latin Vibes, Platinum, Grant Galea and Adam Scicluna will entertain audiences from midday until 3pm from a floating stage moored next to our iconic boardwalk.

Please note that there will be some road closures and clearways in place for the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. This will not impact on access to site, but may add a small amount of time to your journey. Click here to see how this could affect your trip.

Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more information over the coming weeks.
