ACCA dragon Boat team

Sydney Fish Market (SFM) has recently teamed up with the ACCA Dragon Boat Racing Team as their major sponsor for the 2007/08 season.

A dedicated group of athletes consisting of approximately 60 members within its women’s, men’s and mixed teams, the team was established in 1984, borne of affiliations with the Australian Chinese Community Association (ACCA), a non-profit community organisation whose mission is to promote understanding between Chinese and Australian communities.  With emphasis on cultural diversity, teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication and healthy lifestyle, the team encourages the participation of all rowers, be they veterans or inexperienced first timers.

Dragon boating is part of a larger Chinese cultural tradition that dates back 2,400 years. Early dragon boat races were held to avert misfortune and encourage the rains needed for prosperity, and the object of their worship was the dragon. Today, dragon boat festivals are held on five separate continents.

SFM is proud to announce its new association with the ACCA Dragon Boat Racing Team and wishes them every success for the 2007/08 season!
